City of Dreams
I can only muster artificial tears
under the neoned brilliance of the concrete night
cast up on the sidewalk, flotsam street trash.
To dream the city,
create reality in an age of treason.
In the darkness of my body
I am ravished by visions,
invaded, infected by image.
Balled up in a corner of my mind
torn by tangible shadows, I am submerged in twilight.
I am tearing inside, like new leaves.
The shadows leap like crazy laughter
and I am alone again
to purify the flesh within my private madness.
Night hides pain in a slumberous cloak
unconsciousness the only escape.
Street corner, selling dreams
artificial reality, another night, another city.
under the neoned brilliance of the concrete night
cast up on the sidewalk, flotsam street trash.
To dream the city,
create reality in an age of treason.
In the darkness of my body
I am ravished by visions,
invaded, infected by image.
Balled up in a corner of my mind
torn by tangible shadows, I am submerged in twilight.
I am tearing inside, like new leaves.
The shadows leap like crazy laughter
and I am alone again
to purify the flesh within my private madness.
Night hides pain in a slumberous cloak
unconsciousness the only escape.
Street corner, selling dreams
artificial reality, another night, another city.
