A piece of tattoo flash that I designed for my friend Ayn in high school. Yes, her parents named her after Ayn Rand, the poor girl! Angel of Death/Suriel is a character I came up with in 1990. I wrote and illustrated a novella with her as the protagonist (unfortunately, the manuscript, typed on a manual typewriter, disappeared in one of my moves, *argh!*), and she's very much an alter ego and a part of my personal pantheon. She is an aspect of the Egyptian goddess Sekhmet, a fierce protectress and furious destroyer, depending on mood and circumstance. Angel is a permanent part of me -- she's the central image on my backpiece tattoo (the final colors are more subtle now that it's healed, but that's the best photo I have that shows her in good focus -- I should take some new ones, but it's a bit hard to photograph my own back!)
